The Cato Institute seeks to broaden the parameters of public policy debate to allow consideration of the traditional American principles of limited government, individual liberty, free markets, and peace. Toward that goal, the institute strives to achieve greater involvement of the intelligent, concerned lay public in questions of policy and the proper role of government.

CQ Researcher Online. Published by Congressional Quarterly, Inc., CQ Researcher is often the first source that librarians recommend when researchers are seeking original, comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues in the news. This full-text database has archived reports from 1991 to the present.

Global Issues in Context (Gale/Cengage Learning). Offers international viewpoints on a broad spectrum of global issues, topics, and current events. Featured are hundreds of continuously updated issue and country portals that bring together a variety of specially selected, highly relevant sources for analysis of social, political, military, economic, environmental, health, and cultural issues.

NewsBank’s Special Reports Consist of news articles, images, videos and other useful content grouped for convenience under specific topics and themes. Easily accessible within NewsBank resources, they enable students to quickly locate information on a specific subject while helping them gain better insight into current issues and events on a global scale. Each Report features current and retrospective coverage, and new articles are added daily. Special Reports are included with the library’s NewsBank subscription.
