Jazztone Quintet to rock SUNY Sullivan’s Seelig Theater

 

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY (Jan. 20, 2011) – Jazz, the quintessential American sound, gets the blood pumping and the heart pounding. So what better way to stimulate the senses during the cold days of winter than to head on over to SUNY Sullivan’s Seelig Theater, Feb. 17 (Thurs.) at 7:00 p.m. for the hot sounds of Joseph Mantia and his Jazztone Quintet. It’s part of the college’s celebration of Black History Month.

The critically acclaimed Jazztone Quintet features Mitch Kessler on the sax; Mike Kull on piano; Chris Passin on trumpet; Doug Richards on bass guitar; and bassist, Christopher Dean Sullivan. Leader Joseph Mantia will keep the guys in beat behind the drums in a concert that will pay tribute to jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington and other musicians who left their mark on the world of jazz.

Kitt Potter, SUNY Sullivan’s grant writer…and a great jazz performer in her own right, will make a special appearance opening the show with the Impact of Black Music on the American and World Society a presentation in words, pictures and music on jazz from 1940 to 1990.

Tickets for this great evening of jazz are $10 for adults and $8 for children. (Special group rare for eight or more is also available.)

SUNY Sullivan’s celebration of Black History Month will continue, Feb, 24 (Thurs.) at 7:00 p.m. with Michael Monasterial’s “Sam Cooke: Where You Been Baby?”

Founded in 1962, SUNY Sullivan is a two-year community college and a unit of the State University of New York. It offers 40 associate degree and certificate programs, as well as a variety of continuing education and specialty courses, on its 405-acre campus, online and through its distance learning program.
