
LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY (February 18, 2011) – On Saturday, February 26 at 1:00 pm, SUNY Sullivan will present an HD simulcast of Christoph Willibald Gluck’s Iphigenie en Tauride, as it is performed live at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York’s Lincoln Center. The broadcast – part of the college’s Metropolitan Opera: Live In HD Series – is open to the public, and will be shown in the school’s Seelig Theater. Tickets are $20.00 each for general admission, and $10.00 each for students.
SUNY Sullivan is proud to take part in this Peabody and Emmy Award winning series. With state of the art audio and visual capabilities, the Seelig Theater is an ideal venue to see and hear these performances come alive. Light refreshments will be available during intermissions in the adjacent DeHoyos Gallery.
Susan Graham and Plácido Domingo reprise their starring roles in Gluck’s nuanced and elegant interpretation of this primal Greek myth. Tenor Paul Groves also returns to Stephen Wadsworth’s insightful production, first seen in 2007. Patrick Summers conducts.
The seventh of twelve simulcasts in the series, Iphigenie en Tauride will be followed by presentations of popular opera’s by such luminaries as Rossini, Strauss, and Verdi. The series will wrap in May with a performance of Wagner’s Die Wulkere.
