LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY (July 13, 2011) – On Wednesday, July 20 at 6:30 pm, SUNY Sullivan will present an encore broadcast of Puccini’s Tosca performed by New York’s Metropolitan Opera. Each broadcast in the Summer Encore Series is open to the public, and will be shown on campus in the Seelig Theater. Tickets are $20.00 each for general admission, and $10.00 each for students.
Luc Bondy’s dramatic production of Puccini’s operatic thriller, which Le Monde called “a perfect night at the opera,” stars Karita Mattila in the title role. Marcelo Álvarez is her lover, the painter Cavaradossi, and George Gagnidze plays Scarpia, the sadistic chief of police who wants Tosca for himself. Joseph Colaneri conducts.
The penultimate performance in this summer’s series, Tosca will be followed on July 27 by the series finale - Verdi’s Don Carlo.
