While Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's 2012 State of the State Address touched upon a variety of topics, his support for the State University of New York was encouraging because it confirms his position as a champion of public higher education in the Empire State. SUNY Sullivan's interim president, William Murabito and the college community believe the Governor will continue to lend his support to the member colleges of the SUNY system.
SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher hailed Governor Cuomo's remarks by saying "He has it right because he understands that SUNY is a great equalizer for New Yorkers, and it will provide our state with an infinite return on its investment as SUNY drives economic development in every region, creates jobs, jobs, jobs and trains students to become the workforce of tomorrow."
For 50 years, SUNY Sullivan has offered thousands of area students an opportunity to receive a quality education, preparing them for great futures in dozens of careers. Governor Cuomo's promise to help community colleges achieve their goals and objectives was music to the ears of SUNY Sullivan as it continues to partner with the county in making economic strides in education, business, health care and green technology.
Governor Cuomo also proposed the expansion of the NY SUNY 2020 Challenge Grants to all SUNY campuses.
