SUNY SULLIVAN FOUNDATION SUCCEEDS WITH INAUGURAL

DERBY DAY EVENT AT TROTTERS MUSEUM & HALL OF FAME

On Saturday, May 5 the SUNY Sullivan Foundation held a fundraising event at the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen. More than 80 people attended the event which raised over $11,000. Money raised from this event has gone into the SUNY Sullivan Foundation scholarship fund.

Guests at the foundation's Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby Celebration viewed a live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs while enjoying authentic southern fare and mint juleps – the signature cocktail of the Kentucky Derby. Other activities included a silent auction and a hat contest. Women in attendance had the opportunity to purchase hand decorated hats. Proceeds from hat sales have also gone to the scholarship fund.

Honorary Chairperson, F. Edward Devitt said, "I would like to thank the many businesses and individuals who supported the inaugural Derby Day event hosted by the Sullivan County Community College Foundation. As Honorary Chair, I would like to thank Maria Ingrassia for asking me to become involved to help raise scholarship funds for the students of Sullivan County and beyond who attend this fine college; I look forward to working with the college in the future."

The foundation would also like to recognize the other committee members who helped make this event possible: Andrea Nilon, Linda Nilon, Nancy Kane, Pat Allison, Rosemary Skoda, Marica Jacobowitz, Susan Havermale, Roberta Bryant Lockwood and Rita Simon.

SUNY Sullivan's Director of Special Events and Campus Activities, Hillary Egeland, was pivotal in the planning and execution of this event – one that is sure to continue as a new SUNY Sullivan tradition for years to come.

The SUNY Sullivan Foundation works to secure private funds to supplement the college's traditional revenue sources. Through its efforts, the foundation supports the college's scholarship assistance, funding for equipment and enrichment programs, and the ability to enhance and strengthen its academic areas and programs. SUNY Sullivan awards an estimated $100,000 in scholarships annually. It is by the generous contributions of alumni, donors and friends that we are able to provide deserving students from Sullivan County and beyond the opportunity to receive their educations.
