SUNY Sullivan is pleased to welcome the Delaware Valley Opera to present the company's production of Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio. The Sunday, October 28 performance will take place at 2:00 pm in SUNY Sullivan's Seelig Theater.
SUNY Sullivan presents excellent opera performances throughout the academic year and summer as a partner in the Met Opera Live in HD Series. With its 2012-2013 Met schedule set to kick off in October as well, the college is very excited to have this live stage production by the Delaware Valley Opera coming to its state-of-the-art theater.
Hailed as a "delicious comic/drama," Abduction touches on the themes of love and forgiveness as it tells the story of the young Spanish woman, Konstanze, her maid, Blonde, and servant, Pedrillo, who have been abducted by pirates and sold to the Turkish Pasha Selim. Konstanze resists her assignment to a harem for her love of another, named Belmonte. When Belmonte arrives in Turkey to search for Konstanze, a web of likes, dislikes, and nefarious plans is woven with unexpected twists and turns. Will lovers be reunited? Will they be freed to sail back to Spain?
The performers include Jill Dewsnup, Zander Ebin, John Kaneklides, Jay Carr, Fotina Naumenko, and Steve McIntyre. The performances Musical Director and Pianist will be Violetta Zabbi, with Stage Direction by Carol Castel.
