(Loch Sheldrake, NY): The Delaware Valley Opera will present a live performance of Verdi's "La Traviata" at SUNY Sullivan's Seelig Theatre on Sunday, August 3rd at 2 p.m. The production will be sung in Italian with English supertitles, and is fully staged with an orchestra. Julie Ann Hamula will be featured as Violetta with John Kaneklidas as Alfredo.
"La Traviata" survived a notoriously unsuccessful opening night to become one of the best-loved operas in the repertoire. The title role of the "fallen woman" has captured the imaginations of audiences and performers alike with its inexhaustible vocal and dramatic possibilities—and challenges. Violetta is considered a pinnacle of the soprano repertoire.
